We are committed to providing ongoing and accessible ways to to learn about the rich co-curricular opportunities we have in our community. Information about our programming can be found on the BFUHS & BFMS websites and updates will be shared throughout the year through announcements, advisory, and our regular newsletters. Activity coordinators will also provide program specific information to students and caregivers.
All extracurricular activities will now use the Remind App. Remind is a web-based program where all communication such as practice/rehearsal schedules, game/production schedules, updates from coaches, directors and the athletics director and additional program communications will be posted.
To help caregivers, athletes, and community members keep up with schedules and schedule changes, Bellows Falls Athletics has created several ways to retrieve information about practices and game schedules.
- The Bellows Fall Union High School website has, under the Athletics tab, scheduled calendars for athletic facilities and each in-season sports team. Schedules can also be found on SBLive, which also holds standings for most of our varsity teams.
- The Athletic Director can be contacted for information at (802) 460-1461 or by emailing them at connor.bean@wnesu.org
- Game cancellations will be announced as soon as information is available. The Athletic Director will make direct contact with each coach to inform them of the change to set up a practice that day if appropriate and all of this information will be shared on Remind App, social media, and via email with team members and families. General announcements will be made through the school.
Parent Communication with Coaches & Activity Coordinators
Certain topics can, and should, be discussed with your child’s coach or activity coordinator. Other topics, however, must be left to the discretion of the coach or activity coordinator. The following examples are offered as a guide.
Communication from coach / activity coordinator to parents/guardians:
- Coaching philosophy
- Expectations the coach or activity director has for your child, and for the team / group
- Locations and times of practices, contests, and meetings
- Team / activity requirements (i.e. practices, special equipment, out of season conditioning)
- Proper behavior by students on bus trips; estimated time of return
- Procedures to follow should your child be injured during participation
- Discipline that may result in the denial of your child’s participation
Appropriate topics for parents/guardians to discuss with a coach or activity coordinator:
- Treatment of your child
- Advance notification of any schedule conflicts
- Your child’s behavior
Inappropriate issues to discuss with a coach / activity:
- Playing time
- Play-calling
- Other Players
Questions and Appeals:
If there are questions and/or concerns about any extracurricular activities issue, the student shall first take up the matter with the respective coach or activity coordinator. After this initial attempt to remedy the concern, students and parents shall attempt to address the situation progressively through the following levels:
- Student contact the coach or activity coordinator
- Student contact the Athletic Director or Dean of Students / Assistant Principal for non-Athletics
- Student & caregiver meet with the Coach and the Athletic Director or activity coordinator & Admin
- Student contacts the Principal
- Meet with the Coach / activity coordinator, Athletic Director & Principal
If step #1 does not answer the question satisfactorily, then move on to step #2, and so forth until you feel you have the answer that addresses your concerns.
- Please do not attempt to confront a coach before or after a contest. These can be emotional times for both the parent and the coach. Meetings of this nature do not promote resolution
COMMUNICATION - Social Media
Social media is now a major part of our daily lives. We ask that this media outlet be used in a positive, constructive way, and that it never be used to target, put down, or demean others.
Violations of school training rules (e.g. hazing, harassment, drug and alcohol policy) or evidence of such violations found on social media outlets are subject to investigation by school officials and may result in suspension/removal from the team. By following the three guidelines below, co-curricular sanctions can easily be avoided:
Think before you post
Be Respectful
Do not cause harm
