The Fine Arts program offers students a creative and expressive space to explore their talents in visual arts and music. Whether through drawing, painting, sculpture, or instrumental performance, students engage in dynamic learning experiences that encourage artistic growth and self-expression.
Visual Arts
Students in our studio art courses develop foundational skills and experiment with a variety of media, including digital and alternative photography, drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture.
Course Offerings:
- Art I: Foundations in Art: An introduction to drawing, painting, and basic composition using traditional and non-traditional tools.
- Basic Photography: Exploration of digital and alternative photography techniques, focusing on composition and creative expression.
- Intermediate Painting and Drawing: A continuation of Art I, incorporating advanced media, portraiture, and personal artistic development.
- Printmaking: Study of relief printing, serigraphy, and experimental printing processes.
- Introduction to Ceramics: Hands-on exploration of pottery and sculptural forms using hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques.
- Sculpture: Three-dimensional art focusing on materials like cardboard, wood, plaster, and metal.
Our art teacher, Rochelle Borrett, is dedicated to inspiring students to develop their artistic voice and technical skills in a supportive studio environment.
Music & Band
Music plays a vibrant role in student life at BFUHS, providing opportunities for both instrumental and vocal performance. Students engage in ensemble and solo work, music theory, and composition while gaining a deeper appreciation for musical artistry.
Course Offerings:
- Concert Band: Focuses on concert, marching, and pep band music with solo and ensemble opportunities.
- Jazz Ensemble: Exploration of jazz styles, improvisation, and ensemble performance.
- Modern Band: Performance of popular music, including rock, pop, hip-hop, and electronic music.
- Individual Instrumental & Vocal Instruction: Personalized lessons tailored to student interests.
- Music Theory: Study of rhythm, harmony, melody, and the evolution of musical language.
- Intro to Popular Music: Examination of the cultural and historical impact of American popular music.
Our Band Director, James Pecsok, leads students in developing musical proficiency and performance skills through a diverse and engaging curriculum.
