Fine Arts - Music
Proficiency-Based Graduation Requirements
In addition to traditional grades, students will also be assessed using proficiency indicators. Per VT AOE, The artistically literate individual understands and appreciates various forms of art, analyzes and interprets art, and expresses oneself creatively, while recognizing the historical, cultural, and social context in which art is created. The learner authentically uses a variety of artistic and expressive media, symbolism, and metaphors to communicate their own ideas and to respond to artistic communications of others.
FINE ARTS - MUSIC
Students are encouraged to enroll in music courses throughout each year of high school. One credit in Fine Arts is required for all students.
Course Levels for Music:
U Standard Level- Minimum requirements are participation at the level of the course description.
3 Academic Level- A final semester project (specified by instructor) and one of the following: private
lessons, an additional music course within the current academic year, District Auditions, All State auditions, 5 service hours per semester documented on behalf of the music department.
4 Honors Level- All requirements of the Academic Level 3, PLUS advanced involvement in the music
department though one of the following means: 1.) An appointed music leadership position 2.) Fulfillment of an additional display of music scholarship through research, performance recital, or original composition. Prior approval is required for this portion of the student’s grade requirement.
