No School for Thursday, February 13, 2025

Dear WNESU Community,

After careful deliberation and monitoring of multiple weather forecasts throughout the day, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all classes and school activities for tomorrow, Thursday, February 13, 2025.

This decision has been particularly challenging due to the complex mix of precipitation types and varying onset times being predicted. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook and Winter Weather Advisory, with forecasts showing a concerning progression: rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet. Throughout the day, meteorologists have adjusted the timing and severity of these predictions multiple times.

What makes this scenario especially challenging is the forecast's emphasis on ice accumulation during peak travel times. While the predicted 2-4 inches of snow is significant, it's the potential for ice forming during the morning commute that presents the greatest safety risk to our students, particularly our teen drivers and buses navigating dirt road routes.

During this closure:

  • All after-school activities and athletic events are canceled
  • All evening events and meetings will be postponed
  • Administrative offices will be open

We know that school closures create challenges for many families, and we never make these decisions lightly. However, the combination of uncertain timing, mixed precipitation, and hazardous travel conditions during crucial transportation hours has led us to prioritize the safety of our entire school community.

We will continue to monitor weather conditions and will update you regarding any impact on Thursday's schedule. Please check your email, our district website, and local news stations for the latest updates.

We encourage everyone to stay safe and warm during this weather event.

Sincerely,
Andrew Haas
Superintendent
